What a Facebook page does well
- It’s free, and quick to set up.
- It’s good for news: the dish of the day, a new creation, a closing date, an event.
- Your customers can follow you, comment and send you messages.
Its limits for a business
- You don’t decide who sees your posts. Facebook shows them to only some of the people who follow your page, unless you pay to promote them.
- Not everyone is on Facebook. Visitors without an account are often asked to sign in before they can look through your page.
- The essentials get buried. Your hours, prices and services slide down under your latest posts.
- The page isn’t yours. If Facebook changes its rules, restricts your page, or your account is hacked, you can lose it, along with your followers.
- On Google, a website with its own pages for your services, your town and your hours gives the search engine much more to show than a Facebook page. And yourbusiness.fr looks more serious than a Facebook link.
Website and Facebook: each has its job
Your website is the reference: who you are, what you offer, your prices, your hours, how to reach you. It doesn’t move, and you decide what it says. Your Facebook page brings the life: news, photos, events.
Each one points to the other: a link to your website on your Facebook page, and a link to your Facebook page on your website. Your customers find the essentials on one and the news on the other.
